What is Citadep?

Citadep is a medication for the treatment of depression. Citadep helps to restore the brain's chemical balance by increasing the supply of a substance in the brain called serotonin. Citadep appears to relieve depression by increasing serotonin levels in the brain.

How will Citadep help my depression?

Citadep is an antidepressant that is a member of the family of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Citadep helps to restore the brain's chemical balance by increasing the supply of a substance in the brain called serotonin. Citadep appears to relieve depression by increasing serotonin without affecting many of the other chemicals in the brain that influence mood.

Citadep should not be used for people with the following medical conditions:

• kidney or liver disease
• seizures or a history of seizures
• mania or a history of mania.

If Citadep is taken with certain other drugs, Citadep drug interactions could be increased, decreased, or altered. Tell your doctor about any prescription or over-the-counter drugs you are planning to take, and be especially certain to check with him before combining Citadep with the following :

• Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
• Cimetidine (Tagamet)
• Erythromycin (Eryc, Ery-Tab)
• Fluconazole (Diflucan)
• Itraconazole (Sporanox
• Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
• Lithium (Lithobid, Lithonate)
• Metoprolol (Lopressor)
• Omeprazole (Prilosec)
• Sumatriptan (Imitrex)
• Warfarin (Coumadin)
• Other antidepressants such as Elavil, Norpramin, Pamelor, and Tofranil

Cautions

Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver problems, kidney problems, seizures, heart problems, other mental/mood disorders (e.g., bipolar disorder), thyroid problems, any allergies.

This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.

Limit alcoholic beverages.

Caution is advised when using this product in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug.

This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

This drug passes into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Side effects

Citadep has a favorable side-effect profile. As with any medication, you may experience some side effects, but with Citadep, most side effects are mild to moderate, and tend to go away as you continue taking Citadep. The most frequent side effects reported with Citadep are nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness, insomnia, increased sweating, tremor, diarrhea, and problems with ejaculation.

Overdosage

If Citadep overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of Citadep overdose may include: irregular heartbeat, fainting, severe dizziness or lightheadedness.
